Working through a bottle of this over the next few weeks. Not my favorite scotch, especially for 40$.
Tomatin’s 12 year sin gle malt is 32$ and is far superior. Monkey shoulder, while a blended scotch, is also superior for 33$. That being said, I made a rusty nail with this Glenlivet and it was pretty solid with the added drambuie. ALso it pairs well with my girlfriend’s home made brownies. Mmmmmmmm.
Good night, Oppo!

Scotch for straight drinking is wasted for mixing, and scotch for mixing is usually not very good straight. Good to know Glenlivet makes a nice Rusty Nail. For straight scotch, without busting the budget, I’ve come around to Glenmorangie. I have some nice associations with it, though, with a very pleasant trip to Edinburgh, which may cause me to view it with additional favor that has basically nothing to do with the liquor itself.

I have a friend who swears by the Signet. Personally I prefer the 18, but sweet whiskies aren't really my thing in generally.

Believe it or not, I thought about sending a Talisker related reply to you in the Porsche post. Now you’ve posted in a scotch post.
A few weeks ago I found 3 bottles of Douglas Laing Provenance Talisker 6 year on a shelf. It was expensive and the online reviews are just okay...I hummed and hawed for more than a week. It was the novelty of it, plus the educational value that took me back. Last week I opened it.
In hindsight it was the youth that had me worried the most. Worried I’d have a $185 bottle of rough, jagged, and simple, and almost never have a drink. No fear of that happening now. First taste and it was a verbal “Wow”. Complex, with the flavors being very distinct and sitting out on their own. All Talisker and then some. I’ve only had 3 drinks of the 57, but I’m not sure I like it more than the 6. Something I hadn’t thought of beforehand is that a 6 year old, is still 6 years older than most spirits.
TLDR: Douglas Laing Talsker 6 is great but not available in your area. Hunter Laing 5 year is available for a more affordable $140 . You should buy the last bottle. :-)x
